Performance Project Portal – FAQ’s

What are the principles of Inclusive Athlete Development?

Please take a look at our page outlining the Principles of Inclusive Athlete Development and the Prioritisation Framework

Who do I consult with to get advice on a performance challenge that we are currently experiencing?

We feel that our partners are best placed to understand the performance challenges within your own sport. However, we also recognise that this insight may not be fully formed ready for full project submission. Performance advisors will assist you in developing any insight you have to ensure that submissions are complete and fully informed. They can also advise on whether specific sports science and medicine advice is necessary and how this can be accessed.

What happens once your project has been submitted?

Once your project has been submitted you will receive a confirmation email. Your project will then be registered within the Performance Project Portal as a 'new project' and will be evaluated at the next evaluation panel meeting which occurs twice weekly.

If the project is declined, the reasons for this will be discussed with you as soon as possible following the evaluation meeting. The project can be re-submitted once necessary changes are made.

If the project is accepted, the project will be further evaluated from a service capacity perspective then a 'delivery team' will be allocated to the project. The delivery teams expertise will be matched against the aims of the project. A collaborative project planning phase will follow to ensure the project and delivery teams are set up to achieve success.

On what basis is my project evaluated?

The project submission will be evaluated against both the Prioritisation Framework and the Principles of Inclusive Athlete Development. Both criteria will ensure that projects contribute to the collective vision for sport in Wales.

Do you have any previous examples of projects that have been delivered?

Yes, click here to view project case studies. We have categorised them into:

  • The insight: background that drove the project submission
  • The challenge: the performance question that was identified for project submission
  • The impact: a description of what was achieved and how.
  • What did we learn: outlines key learning following delivery that will help to inspire further performance project submissions.

Can my project include individual athlete screening?

Screening within our Inclusive Athlete Development approach will only be undertaken for the purpose of programme learning (i.e. coach development, programme wide injury prevention**),** not to provide individual profiles.

What sports science and medicine services make up the delivery teams?

The Sport Wales Institute offers a variety of experience and expertise that makes up our sports science and medicine team. Descriptions about these services can be found here

To ensure our sports science and medicine practitioners are deployed to impact maximally on inclusive athlete development, we ask that you consider the purpose of the project you are seeking support for and not on what practitioners or services are required to achieve it (problem before practitioner). Once the project goals have been agreed upon, we will work closely with you during the co-creation/planning phase to allocate the appropriate expertise to achieve the project goals.
